How Forecents handles your data

You're being asked to connect a bank account to a website. You should be suspicious — most people don't ask enough questions before doing that. Here are the answers, in plain English. Every one of them is checkable.

Forecents never sees your bank password

Bank connections run through Plaid, the network used by thousands of finance apps. You log in on your bank's own page (or approve in your bank's app). What Forecents receives is a read-only data feed: balances and transactions. We could not move, send, or withdraw your money even if we wanted to — the connection type doesn't allow it.

Your data is encrypted twice over

Everything travels over TLS, the bank-connection tokens are individually encrypted in the database, and the entire database sits on a fully encrypted volume (LUKS) — if the physical server were somehow stolen, the disk is unreadable. Two-factor authentication is built in and free for every account.

We don't sell data. We can't afford to even look shady.

Forecents makes money exactly one way: subscriptions ($8/month). You are the customer — not the product. No ads, no "anonymized data partnerships," no selling, ever.

Check it yourself: open your browser's developer tools on this site or in the app. There's no Google Analytics, no Facebook pixel, no third-party trackers of any kind — a claim almost no finance site can make. We count page visits with our own one-pixel counter that stores no personal information.

Delete everything, any time, in one minute

On your Security page there's an Export button (your complete data as a single file) and a Delete account button. Deletion is total: your bank connections are severed at Plaid, any subscription is canceled, and every row of your data is removed from our database. Not "deactivated" — deleted. No emails after, no retention, no dark patterns.

Who can see your data

Forecents is built and run by one person — me, Scott. Operational access is limited to what's needed to keep the system healthy and help when you ask for support. Nightly automated checks monitor data quality; nobody is browsing your purchases for fun, and there are no employees, contractors, or "data teams."

The services that touch slices of your data to make the app work: Plaid (bank connections), Stripe (payments — your card number never touches our servers), and our email and hosting providers. The complete list, with what each one sees, is in the Privacy Policy.

How fresh is your data?

Honest answer: your data is as fresh as your bank reports it. The chain is your bank → Plaid → Forecents, and the last hop is instant — the moment Plaid has new data, your dashboard updates. The first hop depends on the bank: most report several times a day, a few lag by a day.

Two things we do about it: the Sync now button doesn't just re-read what Plaid has — it asks Plaid to go back to your bank right then (a premium request we pay for on every click, and every plan includes it). And when a bank's connection network is having a bad day, we tell you on the dashboard instead of letting stale numbers pretend to be current. Every account always shows exactly when it was last updated.

Why you can trust the incentives

I built Forecents for my own money first — my real accounts run through the same system, on the same encrypted volume, under the same rules. Every security decision here is one I made as its most paranoid user, not as a vendor. If any of the claims on this page ever stop being true, the Privacy Policy changes first and this page changes with it.
